Helping Create a Nationwide Recycling Infrastructure
The RUBICONMethod™ is a six-step system for setting up and maintaining a successful business recycling program. Following the familiar acronym “DIVERT,” the six steps stand for Determine, Initiate, Vocalize, Eliminate, Roll-out, and Track. Rubicon’s mission is to end waste. Based on the three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle), we want to provide our cities and businesses with a practical guide to help them improve their waste programs and initiatives on waste reduction.
DIVERT
The first step of the RUBICONMethod is to determine your current waste landscape.
Start by making a list of the most prevalent waste materials your business produces. Next, look at the services used to manage the waste materials in your list.
Waste and recycling facilities vary from one location to another. Before you can initiate a plan (Step 2), you will need to know which of your waste materials are (or are not) accepted by your local facilities.
Make a list of the specific needs for your site as well as opportunities. Take time to set goals around waste reduction and sustainability. Sharing these goals will help your key stakeholders understand why this project is meaningful and requires their help.
