Curriculum Writing

We will work with you to create an ideal professional development plan to support your goals and budget.

Any Rubicon software systems can be integrated into appropriate workshops.

Individual Sessions

All our sessions can be conducted onsite or facilitated online over a series of engagements. Onsite  sessions are $2500 a day per facilitator, plus travel costs. Our online sessions are offered at $250 an hour, with some sessions requiring a minimum of two hours.

Develop a Standards-Based Curriculum: Identify Power Standards

Onsite: 1 day | Online: 3 two-hour guided sessions + independent work

Who Should Attend? 

Teachers and/or curriculum writers

Overview

Teachers will identify and bundle power standards into clearly articulated units of instruction. This process will lead to a common understanding of power standards, how they are used, and why they are important. 

Outcome

Teachers will come to consensus to determine the power standards for each grade level and/or content area.

Develop a Standards-Based Curriculum: Create Pacing Guides

Onsite: 1 day | Online: 3 two-hour guided sessions + independent work

Who Should Attend? 

Teachers and/or curriculum writers

Overview

A guided workshop where teachers will read, annotate, and discuss content standards to develop standards-based units of instruction.  This process helps teachers see the logical connections between each strand and cluster of the standards and creates a deeper understanding of how they should be sequenced throughout year.

Outcome

A complete year-long pacing guide that identifies where standards are taught throughout the academic year.

Develop a Standards-Based Curriculum: Unpack Standards

Onsite: 1 day | Online: 3 one-hour guided sessions

Who Should Attend? 

Teachers and Instructional Coaches

Overview

In this workshop teachers will learn how to unpack standards into clear learning targets by articulating what students need to know, understand, and do as a result of a unit of instruction.

Outcome

Teachers and curriculum writers will determine the overarching understandings, content, and skills embedded within each standard to ensure overall alignment.

Develop Standards-Based Curriculum Using NGSS

Onsite: 1 day | Online: 3 – 6 one-hour guided sessions

Who Should Attend? 

Teachers and/or curriculum writers

Overview

Dive into the NGSS to become familiar with the standards and how they are shifting K-12 science instruction. Teachers will learn how to read, bundle, and unitize the standards and explore resources to help construct high-quality NGSS-aligned curriculum.

Outcome

Teachers will develop an NGSS-aligned unit of instruction.

Develop Standards-Based Curriculum Using C3

Onsite: 1 day | Online: 3 – 6 one-hour guided sessions

Who Should Attend? 

Teachers and/or curriculum writers

Overview

Gain a comprehensive understanding of the four dimensions of the C3 framework for Social Studies and investigate the instructional shifts needed to bring them to life in the classroom. Explore resources and develop units of instruction that embed disciplinary concepts within the broader inquiry arc.

Outcome

Develop social studies units of instruction aligned to the C3 Framework.

Support Teachers as Curriculum Writers

Onsite: 1 day | Online: 3 – 6 one-hour guided sessions

Who Should Attend? 

Teachers and/or curriculum writers

Overview

Explore curriculum development based on your school or district’s approach to unit design (standards-based, backwards design, thematic, inquiry-based, mission-driven etc.). Teachers will learn specific strategies to outline what students need to know, understand, and do.

Outcome

Develop one unit of instruction.

Coaching to Create & Review High-Quality Curriculum

Onsite: 1 day | Online: 1 – 3 one-hour guided sessions

Who Should Attend? 

Teacher leaders

Overview

Refine your coaching skills and create a plan that will support teachers with creating and reviewing high-quality curriculum.  This session will equip coaches to elicit teacher-generated solutions and strategies, clarify what they want students to achieve, and identify the learning experiences that will support student success. 

Outcome

Develop a coaching plan to support teachers in building and delivering their curriculum.  

Curriculum Foundations

Onsite: half day | Online: 2 – 4 one-hour guided sessions

Who Should Attend? 

Teachers and curriculum writers

Overview

Support teachers in curriculum writing by reviewing the basic components of unit planning followed by hands-on practice creating units that articulate what students will know, understand and do in the course of a unit. 

Outcome

Outline one unit of instruction.

Adapting Purchased Curriculum into Unit Plans

Onsite: half day | Online: 2 – 4 one-hour guided sessions

Who Should Attend? 

Teachers and curriculum writers

Overview

Support teachers in a thorough review of purchased curriculum to analyze alignment, pacing, and instructional strategies. Teachers will utilize findings to determine ways to modify and supplement the curriculum to ensure best practices and meet student needs.

Outcome

Create pacing guides and unit plans that reflect how purchased curriculum will be implemented in the classroom.
