Atlanta, GA (February 26, 2020) — Rubicon today announced that its RUBICONSmartCity™ software platform is now available to procure from the Marketplace.city buying consortium.
Representing a new approach to government procurement, Marketplace.city grew out of New York City’s attempts to procure smart city solutions. Launched in 2016 as Marketplace.nyc, in collaboration between New York City’s Mayor’s Office of Technology and Innovation (MOTI), the platform proved the need for a smart marketplace that could break down information and procurement barriers, allowing technology solutions to be implemented faster and more efficiently.
“Cities around the world are always looking for new solutions to address sustainability, waste, and recycling challenges, and improve public services overall through the integration of data and analytics,” said Stephen Goldsmith, Professor of Government at the Harvard Kennedy School and Director of the Innovations in American Government Program. “The RUBICONSmartCity solution offers significant value-add to any city that implements it, and making this solution available on Marketplace.city—a truly game-changing procurement solution—will give fleet managers and city officials an ideal option to streamline their government purchases and drive meaningful quality of life improvements.”
Rubicon’s partnership with Marketplace.city makes it possible for city governments to procure RUBICONSmartCity on validated contracts through a dedicated profile on the platform.
“Marketplace.city’s mission is to simplify the process of finding, validating, and implementing new technology at the city level, so governments can improve the lives of their communities with smart solutions,” said Chris Foreman, CEO of Marketplace.city. “We are thrilled to welcome the RUBICONSmartCity solution to our buying platform and collaborate with the team at Rubicon in getting this solution out to the world.”
Marketplace.city marks the third buying consortium where city officials and fleet managers can procure the RUBICONSmartCity solution, with the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace and HGACBuy rounding out the purchasing options.
“Marketplace.city represents an exciting new way for city governments across the United States to procure tech-based solutions to common city problems,” said Michael Allegretti, Chief Strategy Officer at Rubicon. “We’re excited about what the Marketplace.city team have created, and we’re proud to offer RUBICONSmartCity on their platform.”
RUBICONSmartCity has been rolled out in more than 45 cities across the United States, including Atlanta, GA; Columbus, GA; Fort Collins, CO; Fort Smith, AR; Irving, TX; Montgomery, AL; Norfolk, VA; Philadelphia, PA; Santa Fe, NM; Spokane, WA; Tyler, TX; and West Memphis, AR. Through its partnership with Rubicon and the deployment of RUBICONSmartCity, the City of Montgomery, AL earned a coveted Smart 50 Award, a program which annually recognizes the 50 most transformative smart city project across the world.
