Rubicon helps sanitation workers instantly update routes and report issues.

“What is a smart city? It’s using every piece of technology that’s going to make us more efficient,” Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said.

The company behind the sanitation technology, Rubicon, reached out to the city last year about launching a pilot program here after Montgomery raised its profile in tech circles by seeking out better solutions. City IT manager Savio Dias and others regularly examine how other people do it, bring back ideas and adopt what works.
