ATLANTA, Georgia (August 02, 2016) – Rubicon, the leading provider of  waste and recycling solutions, has hired seasoned strategist Michael Allegretti to lead its public policy efforts.

Allegretti comes to Rubicon from Uber, where he oversaw public policy, political and community engagement strategy in New York, the company’s largest market. It was in New York city where he took on the political establishment and beat Uber’s largest competitor, the city’s incumbent taxi-industry.

His success in forging a path for Uber’s technology-driven transportation model will be invaluable to Rubicon, which is seeking similar disruption through technology in the waste and recycling industry.

“Michael brings a valuable mix of industry disruption, sustainability and political expertise to Rubicon,” Rubicon CEO Nate Morris says. “We’re thrilled to have him on our team as we continue to change the way consumers, governments and other stakeholders think about garbage.”

Allegretti previously served as a senior advisor on U.S. policy at The Climate Group, and he organized the 2007 C40 summit on global environmental and economic issues. In addition, he managed the policy portfolio at the urban-focused Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, which focuses on issues that affect the quality of life in cities, such as waste and recycling. Allegretti has worked on numerous high-profile political campaigns, including his own Congressional campaign in 2010. He holds a master’s degree in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and a bachelor’s degree from Boston College.

Leveraging its cloud-based technology, Rubicon connects businesses with its network of independent haulers to drive down waste and recycling costs and divert more waste from landfills. As Rubicon’s head of public policy, Allegretti will focus on building relationships with municipalities across the country, driving the company’s efforts to support zero-waste initiatives, and educating the public on the importance of creating a more sustainable waste and recycling model.

“Rubicon isn’t just disrupting for disruption’s sake; we’re contributing to a better world,” Allegretti says. “It’s incredibly exciting to be a part of that mission.”
