Smart Waste Solutions Available on Global Marketplace

Rubicon, whose solutions are used by more than 50 cities in the US, has made its smart city technology products available on the Geotab Marketplace.

Smart waste and recycling solutions from specialist software company Rubicon are being made available on the global Geotab Marketplace.

The technology suite aims to help city governments run more efficient, effective, and sustainable waste and recycling operations and its applications are in use by more than 50 cities across the US.

Waste and recycling

Geotab is a commercial telematics vendor and, via its marketplace, which has more than 40,000 customers, it has built a global ecosystem of business-focused applications to help organisations better manage their fleets.

Designed to improve service and reduce costs, RubiconSmartCity equips city partners with a full-service software system for managing municipal waste and recycling collection in residential and commercial settings.

Waste and recycling collection is one of the largest annual expenses that city governments face. Rubicon’s inaugural Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, highlighted the potential for over $200m in taxpayer savings across a broad swathe of American cities during a 10-year time horizon.

The data and insights collected by RubiconSmartCity claim to deliver direct taxpayer savings for cities. For example, the city of Atlanta in Georgia has already realised over $750,000 in annual savings from deployment of the technology.

“Rubicon’s mission is to end waste, in all of its forms,” said Michael Allegretti, chief strategy officer at Rubicon. “By offering RubiconSmartCity on the Geotab Marketplace, our goal is to help current and prospective customers streamline their waste and recycling operations to accomplish sustainability goals, especially now, as so many cities are operating remotely and seeking immediate solutions for remote fleet management.”

Through its partnership with Rubicon and the deployment of RubiconSmartCity, the City of Montgomery in Alabama earned a Smart 50 Award, a programme, which annually recognises the 50 most transformative smart city projects across the world.

Geotab’s open platform and Marketplace, offering hundreds of third-party solution options, allows both small and large businesses to automate operations by integrating vehicle data with their other data assets.

“With a continued focus on the development of smart city technology, we are excited to provide Geotab users with access to the RubiconSmartCity solution on the Geotab Marketplace,” said Louis De Jong, executive vice president at Geotab. “By providing our customers with access to leading smart city solutions, we are equipping them with data-insights to help city governments and fleets operate more efficiently and effectively.”
