Below is a message that Rubicon’s Founder and CEO sent to all employees on June 1, 2020.

DEAR TEAM:

I am feeling profound sadness and anger at the tragic events of recent weeks. But what I am feeling is not what’s important.

Our African-American colleagues and friends here at Rubicon, and in our communities, are feeling an intense pain that I have never had to endure. We stand with them. We lift them up with our good wishes and our prayers.

But that is not enough. We must do more than sympathize – we must join together for action to make our community and our country all it can and should be.

The protests we are seeing are a manifestation of the pain and anger that so many are feeling. While it is important that we understand that pain and anger, it cannot bring back the lives that have been lost or undo the past injustices that have plagued our nation for generations. That pain and anger must fuel real, measurable, and decisive action to light a better path forward.

I am committed to doing what is necessary to help drive that action.

While I can never truly understand what too many in our communities face every day, I have a responsibility to do more – to ask better questions, to change behaviors, and to lead by example. I ask you to join me in making sure that Rubicon is part of the solution and that we lead at this important moment.

As a first step, our All Hands meeting on Wednesday, June 3 will focus solely on how we, individually and together, can be part of the solution. Personally, I plan to spend most of the time listening. I want to hear from members of our Rubicon family, whatever they want to tell us – personal experiences and feelings, telling us how we can help, or just letting us know how they are doing.

I am committed to doing my part, playing a positive role in fighting the legacy of injustice, and moving us forward as a company, a community, and a country.

Sincerely,

Nate
