You may have seen from our social media campaign and subsequent press coverage that at Rubicon® we recently engaged teachers from more than 470 schools in 49 states in our inaugural “Trick or Trash” Halloween recycling campaign, a program that we estimate reached more than 10,000 students across America.

The campaign helped students across the country recycle their Halloween candy wrappers in a recycling box provided by Rubicon’s partner, TerraCycle, while at the same time teaching students the importance of sustainability through a recycling lesson plan. The teaching materials were developed for elementary and middle school students and teachers were encouraged to incorporate them into their daily classroom sessions.

The campaign was focused on our company mission to end waste and was a major success. We were thrilled by the energy and engagement that teachers demonstrated and I was excited to see the photos that you sent in on social media of you and your students recycling your Halloween candy wrappers.

Quite simply, this is what Rubicon is all about.

Today, in honor of America Recycles Day, I want to thank every school and teacher that participated in our inaugural “Trick or Trash” Halloween recycling campaign. You took the challenge to make Halloween (which is my favorite holiday) a time to teach students how they can create a more sustainable planet.
