Rubicon’s mission is to end waste. It does this by providing smart waste and recycling solutions for businesses and governments worldwide. It is for this reason that when a new customer comes to us with a bold vision to set a new trend of sustainability and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) values in their industry, we are all ears.
ROCO Real Estate is a residential real estate company based out of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan that owns and operates dozens of multi-family apartment communities across the United States. When ROCO approached Rubicon® to take on its waste and recycling operations, they let us know that their ultimate goal in working with us was to set the sustainability trend in the multi-family homes real estate industry.
At Rubicon, we love to highlight partners that are doing right by the environment, and by their customers. Keep reading to discover how ROCO and Rubicon are beginning to work together to realize ROCO’s sustainability ambitions.
Engaging Residents
ROCO prides itself on delighting its residents at every turn. However, prior to partnering with Rubicon, the company was aware that its sustainability practices were not where they, or their residents, wanted them to be.
The company challenged itself to reach out to residents across its multi-family apartment communities to ask them what sustainability goals, plans, and initiatives they believed ROCO should engage in for the benefit of the environment at large. The three core areas of aspirational improvements that residents provided were:
- Access to recycling streams
- Increasing waste diversion and setting goals
- Resident engagement around best practices to becoming more sustainable
Going Big
Through Rubicon’s initial conversations with ROCO, it was clear that the real estate company didn’t want to implement small, incremental changes to their current sustainability goals. They wanted to go big—really big.
After engaging with residents, it became clear that they couldn’t go “too big” in their push to be a more sustainable business. ROCO came to Rubicon with resident feedback, and we are beginning to work with them to find ways to turn the hopes and aspirations of both ROCO’s residents and leadership into concrete steps that we can take with them to move them towards their goals. (This included signing up to be part of Trick or Trash™, Rubicon’s annual Halloween recycling campaign.)
Embracing Technology
Rubicon is a software platform, which means that technology solutions are at the heart of everything we do to help our customers to find economic value in their waste streams and confidently execute on their sustainability goals.
ROCO has embraced RUBICONConnect™, Rubicon’s commercial portal that seamlessly provides data and analytics to ROCO to make it easy for them to optimize their services and, working in tandem with Rubicon’s waste and recycling experts, move them further towards their sustainability goals.
