Welcome to the Haul of Fame, a weekly series from Rubicon in which we sit down with a hauler partner to talk about their company, their community, and how they are collaborating with Rubicon in our mission to end waste.
As our nation continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, the men and women at companies like these are on the front lines, continuing to drive their daily routes and keeping our communities safe and clean. Their work is the linchpin to safeguarding the public health and we thank them, now more than ever, for providing this essential service to our society.

Ryland Environmental is a waste and recycling hauler serving central and south Georgia. With a fleet of 62 waste and recycling vehicles and a staff of 68, Ryland Environmental has been working with Rubicon since 2016.
Ryland Environmental’s Managing Partner, James Lanier, sat down with Rubicon to talk about his company and mission for the Haul of Fame.
How does Rubicon’s mission to end waste match-up to Ryland Environmental’s own company mission?
Ryland Environmental: Ryland Environmental has built a strong business on a unique approach to customer service and offering the customer not only hauling services but waste audits and reduction plans as well. We have several customers that have zero waste policies in place, and we have helped find end sources for all of their recycling.
How does Ryland Environmental distinguish itself from the competition?
Ryland Environmental: Simple. Our business motto is we are a different kind of solid waste company. Our customer service is unmatched. Our trucks are clean and don’t leak, and we don’t kill our customers with fees and price increases.
What is the view of Ryland Environmental when it comes to participating in the circular economy and helping build a more sustainable future?
Ryland Environmental: Ryland Environmental has a commitment to offering unique ways for our customers to receive added value to their solid waste management program.
What do you love most about the community in which you work, and the customers you serve?
Ryland Environmental: We serve the rural communities of central and South Georgia. Our region is often overlooked when it comes to the big companies and their solid waste programs or they price increase the customers here endlessly. At Ryland, we try to offer big company innovations with small company attention to detail and focus on customer service.
Where does Ryland Environmental see itself five years from now?
Ryland Environmental: Ryland has a business plan to grow Ryland into a $100,000,000 company by the 10-year mark. We are in the fifth year of that process.
