Atlas Disposal is headquartered in Sacramento, California and serves customers across Utah and California. The Sacramento division has provided services in the City and County of Sacramento, Citrus Height, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, North Highlands, Rio Linda, and West Sacramento since 1998. With more than 60 trucks and 120 employees, Atlas Disposal is a full-service waste and recycling company with solutions offered around containers, roll-offs, front-ends, and organics recycling. Atlas Disposal has been collaborating with Rubicon since the company’s origin, partnering with us to realize our mission to end waste.
Steve Bruce, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Atlas Disposal, sat down with Rubicon to talk about his company and mission for the Haul of Fame.
How does Rubicon’s mission to end waste match-up to Atlas Disposal’s own company mission?
Atlas Disposal: Atlas Disposal does not own a landfill. We work with our customers to ensure that both their recyclable material and their food waste and organic material is removed from the waste stream and transported to a facility that can repurpose the material. We are all about recycling.
How does Atlas Disposal distinguish itself from the competition?
Atlas Disposal: A couple of big differences here. We don’t own a landfill, like many of our competitors do. We are also the only locally owned and operated hauling company in Sacramento. We answer our phone with a real live person, no phone trees. Customers ask me all the time “What is the difference between using Atlas Disposal versus your competitors?” The answer is easy: our customers are on your street, their customers are on Wall Street.
What is the view of Atlas Disposal when it comes to participating in the circular economy and helping build a more sustainable future?
Atlas Disposal: Here at Atlas, we are all about sustainability. We were the first hauling company in Sacramento to replace our diesel fleet with compressed natural gas trucks. Today, 65 percent of our fleet runs on alternative fuels. So not only do we work to provide solutions to customers with circular economy thinking, but our tools and resources—including our trucks—are also a big part of that solution.
Where does Atlas Disposal see itself five years from now?
Atlas Disposal: In five years, we see ourselves as the dominant hauler in Sacramento. We understand our customers’ needs and we go the extra mile to ensure that every touchpoint we have with our customers is nothing short of a five-star rating. Just last October, we started our second hauling operation in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the past 12 months, we have exceeded our customer and revenue goals, and are on a great path to continue that growth.
