March is B Corp Month in the United States and Canada, and here at Rubicon we are celebrating by looking back on our initial decision to put in the hard work to become certified as a B Corp for the first time in 2012.

When Rubicon was founded in 2008, it was established with the vision to have a profoundly positive impact on the environment and to do our best by our employees, our customers, and anyone else with whom we come in contact.

In an interview last month after we were certified as a Great Place To Work® for the second year in a row, Rubicon Founder, Chairman, and CEO Nate Morris noted, “Rubicon’s mission is to end waste, and to help us realize that mission, we look for visionaries who are challenging the status quo, who want to make a positive difference in the world.” The way we have attracted (and continue to attract) these visionaries is by sticking to the ideals set forth by the B Corp community of meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability in everything that we do.

David Rachelson speaking on the importance of being a B Corp

“Here at Rubicon we are a mission-driven company, but we know that in order to complete our mission, we need to attract the best people,” wrote Rubicon’s Chief Administrative and People Officer, Michael Heller, in a recent blog post. “We are one of just 2,700 Certified B Corporations worldwide, and we have been one since 2012. Part of this is due to us providing the best workplace and benefits possible for our employees, including (but not limited to) paid health and dental premiums for full time employees and their dependents, a generous 401(k) program, 65 percent reimbursement for mass transit, and more.”

The Importance of B Corp Month

Rubicon was an early mover when it came to becoming certified as a B Corp, and we continue to be certified every year, growing our rating each time.

Out of 2,700 B Corps worldwide, we are in the top 100 in terms of employee count. This puts us in a strong position to shape the global conversation surrounding everything from how to promote good environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) criteria, to making sure that our veterans, working parents, and partners are fully supported.

Our assessment score has gone up year-over-year since we first became certified, which points not just to the dedication of our executive team to push our company in a direction of which we can be proud, but also to the incredible dedication of all of our employees, from the Customer Care team who speak with and find solutions for our customers every single day, to the Human Resources department who ensure that the rest of us are well cared for.

Being a B Corp means that Rubicon is held to the high external standards that we have always held for ourselves internally. We couldn’t be prouder to live up to these standards when serving our customers, employees, and the greater community each and every day. If you want to challenge the status quo and make a difference at a Certified B Corporation and Great Place To Work®, come and join us at Rubicon. All of our current job openings can be found on LinkedIn, or on the Rubicon careers portal.
