08 May ALWAYS ASK FIRST…IT’S JUST NICE! – School Schedules

Guest Blogger

School schedules dictate daily teaching and learning. School days, quarters, terms, and years revolve around them. Given the ways in which instruction is impacted by schedules, it is important to include teachers in the conversation about scheduling. Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School did just that. While integrating a new schedule format, admins reached out to teachers. School leadership found this exercise “was valuable since teachers felt a little more ownership over their schedules and we also knew that their understanding of the school’s overall goals was being realized.”

“After the first year of the new schedule format, we decided that maybe asking teachers for their input would not be a bad idea. Is it ever? This is what we found when we asked them to determine how 15-minute “mods” of instructional time, personal learning time, targeted instructional time, etc. This was valuable since teachers felt a little more ownership over their schedules and we also knew that their understanding of the school’s overall goals was being realized.”
