On October 8th, 2005 a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 hit northern Pakistan. In the wake of the natural disaster, more than 73,000 people lost their lives and many more have been left stranded without homes, food, water or clothing. The International School of Islamabad (ISOI), an Atlas school located in Pakistan’s capital, lost members of their school community.
To counteract this destruction, the school established an Earthquake Relief Fund. Through this fund they set up several projects to assist in reconstruction of the areas hardest hit. The help provided by ISOI was crucial because many survivors lack basic necessities needed to live.
Survivors now face the rapidly approaching winter and many are in desolate areas with damaged roads and no basic supplies or shelter. With casualties rising and numerous children orphaned by the disaster, many will not be able to survive without outside intervention and assistance. The ISOI Earthquake Relief Fund is helping to fund a project that is working to build homes for those left devastated by this earthquake.
